It's been rather interesting here these past few day. I got to one of the main evacuation shelters for this area 2 days ago. The hurricane passed by this area sometime in the afternoon. We saw gusts up to around 60 to 70mph, fortunately a lot lower than it could have been. We lost power at the shelter rather quickly and stayed on emergency back up for the rest of the time there. I was on the air for about 12 hours each day talking mostly to the main emergency operations center (EOC). The shelter was finally closed around 9 this morning and after a quick swing by the house I was re-stationed to the EOC. 'Didn't sleep more than about 3 or 4 hours the first night, but 'got about 6 or 7 hours sleep the second night there. I feel much better today, but not really on top of things. 'wonder why...
^_^

There are many poles split in half, transformers on the ground, wires all over the place in my neighborhood. Originally I could not get to the house due to a tree across the road, but 'was able to hike in a short distance to (very gratefully) find no damage to the house, but we lost a large pine and the yard is littered with branches large and small. (Ann might have written some, but I haven't had a chance to get over there yet, I'm just hi-jacking an internet connection at the EOC to get on at the moment.) I might be able to sleep there tonight after shutting down the station here at the EOC later on today, but we don't expect to have power or phone any time soon.

The weather the past two days has been fantastic, very un-Oregonian, as opposed to Thursday's weather.
Anyway, I'll try to write more later...
